* LIGHT CYCLES *
****************
(C)1992
Written by James Busby in GFA Basic
V3.5
This game is SHAREWARE!
Look out for how to register.
INTRODUCTION
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Anyone who has seen the film 'Tron' will
need no explanation, but for the rest of
you, here it is.
Two opponents drive light cycles in an
enclosed area. The bikes can turn in the
vertical and horizontal directions, but
can never stop. As they move, the cycles
leave a coloured trail behind them.
The objective for each player is to
force his/her/it's opponent to crash
either by hitting a coloured trail, or a
wall or other obstacle. Simple!
LOADING
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Double-click on LIGHTCYC.PRG
This game has been tested on STs with
TOS 1.2, 1.4, and 1.62 successfully. IT
WILL NOT WORK ON TOS 1.0 STs. SORRY!
ST owners with a meg or more will get
all the levels loaded at once. 520
owners will suffer a little disk
accessing.
STE owners get sexy DMA samples!
PLAYING
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Player 1 uses a joystick in port 1
Player 2 uses a joystick in port 0
(mouse port)
Up,Down,Left,RIght : Steer cycle
Fire : Activate Turbo
P : Toggles pause
Q : Quits to title
screen
The play options available are:
ONE PLAYER : Human vs Computer Drone.
You have 3 lives. Each time you kill the
drone, you receive a score equal to the
remaining bonus, so speed is important.
At every 5000 points a new life is
awarded and you proceed to the next
level. If your score is good enough, you
will earn a place in the high-score
table.
One Player gives you a second option:
NORMAL/SUPER DRONE : Controls speed of
the Drone
TWO PLAYERS : Human vs Human. Each
player has 3 lives. The survivor is the
winner. Great fun!
Two Player gives you a second option:
LEVEL : Choose the level you wish to
play on. Higher numbers are generally
harder levels.
LOW/HIGH SPEED : Obvious!
COLOURS : Allows you to choose the
colours for the players' trails. This
option was added because some TVs have
difficulty contrasting certain colours
with the background.
REGISTRATION
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
LIGHT CYCLES is released as SHAREWARE.
This is a new concept for distributing
software.
As SHAREWARE, you are free to copy and
distribute LIGHT CYCLES. However, if you
enjoy playing this game you are asked to
make a contribution to the author.
At the moment most shareware authors ask
for £5 registration fee. I think this
figure is too big, as a lot of shareware
is pretty rubbish and not worth a tenth
of that.
I ASK FOR ONLY £3 FOR LIGHT CYCLES!
In return for registering your copy, you
will receive 12 NEW levels to use with
the existing game! I think the original
game and 12 more levels is pretty fair
for £3.
To register, send your registration fee
together with your name, address, and
where you got hold of this game (for
statistical purposes!) to the
appropriate address below (I am moving!)
Please make cheques or postal orders
payable to 'James Busby'.
Before 27/09/1992:

or after 27/09/1992:

I will promptly post you a disk
containing the extra levels. Once
registered, you will be informed of any
upgrades or bug fixes, and will also be
first to get your hands on my latest
releases, such as a possible Light
Cycles 2 (which depend upon your
support!)
THANKYOU.
REVISIONS
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The version number is displayed on the
title screen. The original V1.0 has no
number on the title screen.
Version 1.1:
- Problem with display of options fixed
- In two-player mode, the playing level
is no longer reset to 1 after each game
- The word EXIT at the bottom of the
options has been replaced by PLAY for
clarity
- The level number is now displayed on
the scoreline in one and two player
